Filmmaker, Mary Dore, does not gloss over the internal quarrels of feminism in She's Beautiful When She's Angry. The film aims to fully illuminate the many sects of second wave feminism. Throughout this semester we are going to discuss intersectional feminism, but it's important to understand and recognize that feminism has not always embraced intersectionality.
After watching the film, what kinds of things are you interested in reading and learning this semester? Although historical in nature, what does this film have to do with contemporary realities? Does it give you any sense of how the future could be better? Does this film promise justice? How? For whom?
Are there limitations of the text’s historical perspective? Is this critique and analysis of second wave feminism still relevant? Is it fair and appropriate?
What do you think about the film's effort at reclaiming anger and beauty? Some criticized the film for the use of "beauty" in the title. Is the title referring to external or internal beauty or both. Does it matter? Why or Why not? What is something that you would like to see reclaimed?

Watching “She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry” made me so much more curious about the women’s history. Watching the film really makes me want to learn more about the women involved in making the change in history that transformed the position of women in today’s society. As the film illustrates women fighting equality, it’s interesting to me that even today, were still having the problem that women don’t have the same job opportunities and payments that men do. It’s so inspiring to me how far women have come from the clips in the film 50 years ago. It really shows how perseverance and dedication can make real change in our country as a whole. In our…
This semester I am looking forward to learning new information and facts regarding the views and aspects of feminism. When learning about this broad subject, there are many different ways that people express feminism. People think that the definition of feminism or being a feminist is strictly the practice of woman's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes. It reality it is more than what most people expect. There are many stories that go unheard and get pushed aside which play an important role with feminism. By reading the words of literature by woman who have been ignored, played a part by being discriminated will give readers a real true life experience.
After watching this film, I…
This semester, I’m interested in learning more about feminism and the progress we have made so far. I believe this film only opened my eyes to realize that the inequality, we as women, face on a daily basis has not just begun. It has been happening for decades. It’s amazing to see the women come together as a unit and fight for what they believe in. The movie is inspiring because it does let me know that one person can do a lot if they voiced how they felt and how they know they deserve to be treated. The film doesn’t promise justice, but it does give hope that there will be justice.
I believe the film did a great…

As someone who is not very knowledgeable in the history of women and feminism, a lot of the information covered in the film She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry was brand new to me. It is very interesting, but also disappointing, to me to learn that a lot of the issues women face today are the exact same issues they were fighting against during second wave feminism between the 1960’s and 1980’s. We are at point in time where women’s reproductive rights are under attack and access to safe abortions seem to be on decline, especially for lower-income women in rural areas. Earlier this year, the Mississippi and Louisiana legislatures each passed a bill outlawing abortions…

Feminism is a relatively new topic for me and I am not too well versed in literature, so I am excited to explore everything that is thrown our way this semester. The film is relevant to today’s culture because there is still a lot of road left to travel before equality of the genders is established. Women are still making much less money on average the men, are occupying less than 10% of CEO positions of fortune 500 companies, are still having their bodies legislated by the government, and are still facing several other issues. It raised my awareness of how feminine opinions are dismissed, how feminine perspectives are not given respect and how feminine point…
